  I interviewed Marina Chavez for my second Vblog. Marina Chavez is a first-grade bilingual teacher in Pasadena ISD and in this interview, she shared with me some of her new experiences, opinions, and knowledge she has developed during her first year of teaching. Ms. Chavez herself grew up as a Spanish speaker but later learned English. Now she teaches students that were like her learn the content area material and develop their English language proficiency. Something that I learned from Ms. Chavez during her interview was her determination to really get to know her students and to try to understand them better in order to help her know how to teach them best. She shared her experience in getting to know her students like creating an "All About Me" activity at the beginning of the school year and incorporating family, a common value in many Hispanic or Latino families, into her writing prompts. Hello  everyone! My name is Betsabe Reyes. I am a senior here at the University of Houston. My major  is in Human Development and Family Studies with the EC-6 certification. I am looking forward to learning  so much more about language and how to teach English language learners this semester. Vblog Entry 1 Video My parents are from Mexico and Honduras so I grew up speaking Spanish. I gradually learned English through my older sister and through media, like cartoons and movies. I was in bilingual classes until 5th grade. During my education in bilingual classes, I was only ever with other Spanish speaking students learning English so I did not have much experience with people from other backgrounds who spoke languages other than English or Spanish.  It was not until I reached late intermediate and high school where I began to really notice that there were students who spoke other languages, such as Vietnamese and Hindi.
